"I was told 18, dude." - John's flawless alibi

John Christopher Weaver is an unaired suspected predator caught in the Riverside, California edition of To Catch a Predator. He is notable for his attempt at remaining calm despite his clear wide-eyed fear while being confronted by Chris Hansen.

Chat[]

27-year-old John Christopher Weaver started an internet conversation with a Perverted Justice decoy who was posing as a 13-year-old girl named "Carrie." He lied about his age claiming to be 25. Within minutes, John questioned the decoy's horniness and declared that he could "eat [her] up." He then asked if she was "shaved or trimmed." John said things like: "thats the best to have a girl sit on wet warm mouth with a shaved pussy" and "or u prefer to lay on ur back with ur legs spread as i lick n eat ur shaved wet pussy?" He persisted in asking her a variety of sexual questions, such as her bra size, if she had ever had performed oral sex, and when her mother would be departing. When the decoy accused John of ditching her after they scheduled a meeting, they had a fairly amusing scene in which John, while at work, flipped out and yelled, "Will you fucking relax." Once the tension subsided, the two decided to stick to their plan and John made his way after he finished at work.

Sting[]

As soon as John entered the home, Chris Hansen greeted him. When asked what he is doing there, John said "not a whole lot." He lied about his identity, calling himself "Kevin Smith" and saying that he was 25 years of age. Once more, John lied, saying that he "was told 18, dude." Chris, rather humorously, pointed out John called him dude, causing John to nervously chuckle and referred to Chris as "sir." He insisted on using this explanation but finally recanted when Chris was given the chat log by the decoy, saying he was "just horny at the time." After Chris revealed that he knew he was given the wrong name by John, the latter then revealed his name as "Chris Weaver." He insisted that he had never previously talked to any girls who were underage. He characterized his sexually charged conversation as a "mistake" and said that "thank God nothing's come of it." Before the interview was concluded, Hansen introduced himself, which hilariously lead to them both acknowledging the same name coincidence. The camera crew misinterpreted this as a sign to to come out, causing them to spook John. He quickly fled before Chris could tell him he walked into an investigation and was arrested upon leaving the house.

Aftermath[]

John was originally charged with attempted lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age and attempted oral copulation with a minor under 14 years of age and more than a 10 year age difference between victim and offender, both felonies. His bail was set at $50,000.[1] John got off very lightly in comparison to the most of the men featured in the show. His two prior felony charges were reduced to a misdemeanor count of attempted sexual battery. John was sentenced to one day in jail with one day credit for time served, three years of probation, and was required to register as a sex offender. Due to his conviction only being a misdemeanor, John was not a lifetime registrant, as he was later taken off of the public sex offender registry page.[2][3]
